Adrift and Lonely

There’s a ship that sails upon the sea

Of battered hearts searching endlessly

Through many storms, she has come along

But now she’s set adrift . . . alone

The ship’s wooden frame is steady and strong

But deep inside is a different song

The damage there hidden from view

Is desperate for a home to make it new

Hard wooden sides is what everyone sees

But deep in her core are the broken pieces

She steers straight and true, holding her course

While quietly drowning in dark loneliness

Oh where, she wonders, is that distant shore

The aim of her journey begun so long ago

A welcoming harbor with a beacon of light

This haven of rest she seeks through the night
